A hand-picked set of our fonts can be downloaded free for personal use, and almost every other font has a $1 Personal Use license. We love seeing them on birthday cards and school projects — but “personal” has limits, and knowing them protects you.
Personal use covers
- Your own invitations, cards and gifts.
- School and university assignments.
- Personal social media that doesn’t promote a business or earn money.
- Trying a font in mock-ups before you decide to buy.
Personal use does not cover
- Logos and branding for any business — even a small home business.
- Products you sell, including printables and T-shirts.
- Client work, if you’re a designer or freelancer.
- Monetized content, ads and paid promotions.
- Websites and apps.
Questions we get every week
Can I use a free font for my school or university project?
Yes — as long as it isn’t sold or used to promote a business, school work is personal use.
Can I use it on my personal Instagram?
Yes, if the account doesn’t earn money. Sponsored posts, affiliate links or a shop account count as commercial.
I’m testing logo ideas for a client. Is that okay?
You can try fonts while sketching ideas, but the moment the design is presented or delivered to a client, the font needs a commercial license.
What happens if I use a personal font commercially by mistake?
Just upgrade on the font page — it takes a minute, and you get the full commercial files and a proper license for your records.
Personal Use for $1
Most of our fonts now have a $1 Personal Use license. It’s the same files you would get for free elsewhere, kept safely in your account, and it supports the designers who drew them.
When to upgrade
The moment money is involved — selling, promoting, or working for a client — choose a commercial license on the same font page. Most projects start with the Desktop License; logos need the Logo License. Our license helper tells you which one in two clicks.
Why we offer free fonts
We want designers and students everywhere to try our work. If a free font helps your project, upgrading supports the designers who drew it — and gets you full commercial peace of mind.
Why $1 for the rest?
Most of our fonts now have a $1 Personal Use license. It helps a small studio keep drawing new typefaces, and it’s still less than a cup of coffee. You get the same files, kept in your account to download any time.
